This Is Why Some People Are Against Progress
You and some friends are walking in the woods, you had a good time by the lake with food and drinks, but on your way back to the car you realize you’re lost. It’s getting darker, and you’re not totally prepared for spending the night in the cold. Who knows what hides in the bushes!
What do you do?
There are 3 likely answers to the question:
Some members(A) of the group suggest to just keep walking, and they’ll find the car eventually.
Others(B) suggest staying where they are and continuing the search in the morning.
Others(C) suggest going back to the lake, and they can re-trace their steps in the morning from the place they know the best.
I’m sure you’ll have an opinion about who’s right, but there’s no right answer, they all have their valid pros and cons.
If people in A keep walking, they could get even more lost and even the morning light won’t help find the way anymore. But the fact that they’re walking will make them feel they’re “making progress”. Progress towards what? You’re lost!
People in group B or C want to stick to what they are already familiar with, and use it as a stepping stone to finding the path in the morning when they can see what’s around them a bit better.
We’re kinda lost, so beware of people telling you to blindly follow them towards progress.
